This scarce catalog traces the Western influences on Japanese pictorial art, primarily that of woodblock prints. As Noguchi points out in his preface, the appearance of landscape and nature subjects in ukiyoe can be traced more to Western examples that entered Japan mainly via the Dutch rather than Chinese landscape styles.
